Question: What do you think of this idea for an engagement party?
(Posted by: ★Jen☆Mum to 1,Wife to be & TTC! on 2009-12-30 23:10:28)
My fiance and I got engaged on Sunday 27- Dec :) We are going to hold an engagement party at the end of March ( not quite sure which date yet, but towards the end) I have a couple of Questions: What did you do for your engagement party? And in my case, what food would you provide? We are looking at having it at White Man Park http:/ / www.whitemanpark.com.au/ ( March is the first month of Autumn here in Australia) and aim for it to be very casual and laid back. I have thought of having sandwiches made, some cheese, crackers and dips, salads and champagne. Or should I ask everyone to bring a plate or is that impolite? I am a little confused on the etiquette of it :) :) Hope this makes sense :) If you need more information, just add it in your answer and I'll add it in. Thanks :) J x |

An engagement party has a specific purpose, and that is to formally announce the engagement of Mary Smith to John White. The engagement party should be hosted (planned, organized, and paid for) by the Bride's parents, and if they are unable to do so then the Groom's parents or a close friend or relative should host the event. The engaged couple SHOULD NOT host their own engagement party unless there are no other alternatives or choices. The engagement party should be held within six weeks of the proposal, not several months later. The party can be held in a nice restaurant on a Saturday evening or in a park on a Sunday afternoon. The host and hostess of the event should provide all of the food and beverages for the party. It is inappropriate to ask your guests to bring food and beverages to YOUR event. An engagement party is not a Sunday night pot luck dinner. The food can range from a three course dinner at a nice tavern or restaurant to hot dogs and barbecued chicken in someone's backyard. One of the easiest meals "for a crowd " is pre-made lasagna (just heat in the oven), tossed salad, assorted rolls, and dessert (fancy cupcakes or homemade cookies with ice cream). The couple should not be registered with any wedding or bridal registry until the engagement party has taken place. An engagement party is not considered a gift giving event. Engagement party on a cruise or garden! Sandwiches, dips, champagne, finger food, You should provide the plate. No one asks their guests to bring their own ;p |

You don't have an engagement party then you ask the guests to bring their own food. Not nice. I have given you a link which may give you some hints. |
