An invitation to a party is never a requirement for a gift. Etiquette is clear: an invitation to an event is a request that you celebrate the occasion with the host of the event. No gift is required. That said, is is usually customary to bring a gift. You can ask if the person for whom the party is given has a registry. You are under no obligation to get something from the registry, but it can give you some idea of the level of expectations.

No I don't think so. The invitation is just that, an invite to celebrate the event with the couple. If they are providing all of your food and drink it might be nice to bring along a small something but it is not required. At our engagement party we provided all food and drink (alcohol and others) but did not register anywhere nor did we tell anyone that we wanted gifts, so that our guests were under no obligation to buy anything for us. Most still did however, I guess it is almost a tradition or some form of etiquette.

No, it's not a gift-giving event. There will be a shower gift to give should you be invited, then a wedding gift.
