Question: Do you bring a gift to an engagement party?
(Posted by: CC on 2010-02-17 11:42:57)
My boyfriend and I are invited to his Godmother's engagement party and I am not sure if we bring a gift. His Godmother is in her 50's and has a home with her boyfriend that she has been with for 20 years. They finally decided to get married. If we bring a gift what type of gift would be appropriate? |

Hey! Gifts are completely unnecessary for an engagement party. If you' really like to do something, see if you can help by bringing a food dish, or punch or wine! But definitely save the gift for the wedding shower and/ or wedding! Krys Caughell IWPP |

YES YOU SHOULD DEFIANTLY TAKE A GIFT. CANDLES ARE ALWAYS GOOD, PICTURE FRAMES OR FIND OUT IF THERE IS ANY THING SHE WOULD NEED. GOOD LUCK! |

It's okay to not take a gift to an engagement party. But if you feel awkward showing up empty-handed (like I do), then it would be appropriate to give a small, consumable gift like a bottle of wine, chocolates, or flowers. |

That's a gray area, no one knows whether or not to bring a gift. just get them a nice bottle of wine and a card. |

That's always an iffy one for me. I'm getting married and I didn't expect any gifts until our shower/ wedding. If you want to get them something then you could get them a picture frame with their favorite picture in it or something like that. Helping out with the party is also something good. It really all depends on the couple. |

It's really not necessary. Why would someone in their 50's have an engagement party anyway. I've been with my significant other for 14 years, and I'm 60! I wouldn't have an engagement party, plus, I wouldn't want a wedding gift either. Having a celebration with friends & family is what it's all about. But, if you can't go empty handed, take a good bottle of champagne! |
