Question: What engagement gifts are traditional or proper to give to a couple during their engagement party?
(Posted by: Emily C on 2010-02-18 11:51:45)
My boyfriend and I are going to an engagement party for a couple this weekend. The couple is very close to us, and neither of us are closer to one person than the other. For this event, what kind of gifts are traditional to bring? A bottle of wine won't be enough. Also, the couple already lives together. |

If they have been engaged for a month or more they might already be registered somewhere so check for that. I always give a gift card to their favorite restaurant and write a note in the card that says something like, "Congratulations on your engagement. May you share a lifetime of love and laughter. Take time for yourselves to enjoy your engagement together and this special time. " So many people give wine glasses, vases and frames. |

Some nice glasses, maybe engraved with their names or initials, to start off their collection of items for their home? |

Traditionally, nothing is really given for an engagement party, but many newly engaged brides express interest in things to help with the wedding plans, such as subscriptions to bridal magazines. I suggest a really nice bottle of wine or a funny book on marriage. |

Many times it is just your well wishes at the engagement party but a wonderful bottle of champagne would be good or I do like the person who said a spa day certificate! |

Do they have a registry? if so, check that out. how long have they lived together? this matters because they could & couldn't have certain items, such as: - wine glasses - entertainment pieces i.e. chip n dip platters, bread basket, cheese & cracker platter, iced drink pitchers, etc etc - monogrammed towels - if you guys are really close, do you have a great pic or something memorabilia? doing something interesting with that would be cool |
