Make your own...I did for my wedding. I used a tall square box, it was actually a double cereal box, but you can use any good shaped box. Cut a slit in the top at least 1/ 2 inch wide and 6 to 8 inches long. Cover the box in something that matches your theme. I had an Indian wedding so I used shiny gold mylar, covered the box smoothly, and placed a border near the top and bottom of the box with a gold edged jewel toned striped wide ribbon. Then I hot glued a label I printed myself that said, "Make a wish for the groom and his bride and take a moment to drop it inside. " Near the bottom of the label it also said, "please deposit your gift cards here. " After attaching the label I glued a small purple butterfly in the center of the top of the label and center of the bottom of the label facing each other. It was gorgeous and when finished looked very elegant and expensive. For your engagement party you may need a larger box, depending on the number of guests invited. Something else you might consider is not a box but something round like popcorn tin. In order to have a slotted top you can cut a round cardboard with a slit and glue or tape, paint the tin gold or white, or matching color for your theme or wrap in pretty paper. The options to make something are endless. Just put your imagination to work. I saw a picnic basket used for a garden party theme and a pretty floral painted mail box used in a similar themed wedding. Good luck and best wishes. |
