Question: Thinking of making my own invitations, need ideas?
(Posted by: KD on 2010-01-25 09:21:34)
I finally found the place where I'll be having my reception and in trying to save money, I thought I could make my own invitations. My colors are going to be Navy (or Marine), white, and silver. I am not a very creative person so any ideas on how I can do the invitations and what types of supplies I'll need? I'm sure Hobby Lobby is going to be a great place to look for stuff. Thanks! |

I would look at invitations online and see if you can find something that you like that would be easy to recreate. I'm creating my invitations 100% on my own. I found some invitation kits on clearance at Walmart for $7 a piece that I'm using the envelopes out of. I'm using the envelopes from the kits for the RSVP cards and as the inner envelopes, and am buying other envelopes from Staples to use as the outers. I scoured the internet and found some invitations that I liked, found the picture of it online, and am putting the picture (a castle - Cinderella theme) on the invites (and RSVPS) with the wording over it. I'm just using the cardstock from walmart. My invites are a full sheet of cardstock, folded in half, so all I had to do was create a Word document of the exterior and one of the interior, and when I go to print them, it's just a matter of flipping the paper. I also created my own save the date magnets using a similar procedure and creating tables on the word document to get more than one per page. (I got printable magnet paper at Staples for like $14 for 4 sheets, 12 magnets per sheet.) I honestly didn't think the magnet thing would work at first, but they look as good as anything you'd order off of ebay. |

What is your theme? My dad made my invites, I had a fairy tale theme, we just had the nice black card stock then he printed on the nicer off white paper a castle in the back ground with the script over that, glued it on and you can add a ribbon on the top if you want, but by keeping it with just the flat piece instead of all the neat intricate folds it helps keep the cost down. |

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Making your own invitations can be a lot of fun. A majority of DIY invites have instructions on how to make your ideal invites. Below are a simple invitations with a platinum silver boarder that has 50 invites along with response cards and envelopes. Why don't you use this or something similar with a dark blue colored Monotype Cursive font? Simple, but lovely. weddingsbydezign.com/ invitations-more/ do-it-yourself-invitations/ platinum-border-invitation-kit.html All the Best, Weddings By Dezign |
