It'd probably be considered a bit tacky.

That's a great point except for the fact that (believe or not) not everybody has the internet or email.. especially older people.

Not everyone is as smart as you are.

Because some people like to show a bit of extra care and thought. Some people love paper goods, cards, and stationery. Your wedding is a very special one-time event, and some people want to go the extra mile and have special invitations. There is nothing wrong with that. And, some people could care less about invitations.

Your wedding invitation is your guests' FIRST IMPRESSION of what your wedding ceremony and reception will be like. So you can send an E-mail invitation OR You can call on the telephone OR You can send out a nice hand-written invitation (plain white paper, no printing costs) or a printed invitation. Now what type of impression would you like to make? Because statistics prove, over and over again, that your invited guests will decide if they want to attend your wedding (and what type of gift they will give you) just by the looks and presentation of your wedding invitation. And even if you don't believe me, just ask the Bride and Groom who invited all of their guests "by telephone " what type of wedding gifts they received. You only get one chance to make a FIRST IMPRESSION. Answered by: A Certified wedding specialist / A Professional bridal consultant / A Wedding ceremony officiants

A wedding invitation by email would seem informal and most guests would feel you didn't want to take the time to do real invitations, and some may think that you did, but just didn't send them one. It probably won't be taken as well as an written invitation.

A wedding (even a casual one) is a formal affair. Formal affair = formal invitation. E-vites are ok for a quick get together, but not for weddings.

Because it would be looked as cheap, lazy and cheap. That would be perfect paired up with a e-wedding card and an emoticon as your wedding present. Ugh.

Actually, having a "Green " wedding is becoming much more popular. One of the tips is to not use paper invitations to invite your guests unless they do not have access to email. It isn't as elegant as a paper invite, but if you are concerned about the environment and want to do a "Green " themed wedding, you might want to try it. All the Best, Weddings By Dezign

It's your wedding do whatever you want . No one says you have to go by the rules .. If everyone you are inviting has an e-mail account then go for it send it out threw e-mail ! I'm sure there are websites that have wedding invites threw e-mail like they have birthdays card threw e-mail ..

Because it is tacky and rude, please bring me gifts but I can't spare a few hundred dollars to send you a real piece of paper?? Really makes your wedding seem special when your invite is received in between spam emails on a gmail account.

Because even in the 21st century, it's disrespectful to not send a formal written invitation to a major event like a wedding. evite is fine for parties and get togethers but a wedding is a life changing event and cause for celebration.

Generally speaking, not all people have e-mail accounts. In particular, the older folk usually don't. Also, my wife and I found out that even when you send e-mails out, people still procrastinate. * * *

Because they don't want their guests mistaking it for spam and deleting it w/ o reading it.

I agree -- at first glance, invitations do seem like a waste of money. I don't buy into the "you need to make a perfect first impression " crap -- a wedding is a wedding, not a formal state dinner for the Queen! Most couples need the money for a house or their future children. However, paper invitations are more practical. My family is not very e-mail savvy....my aunts/ uncles only check e-mail every once in a while, and the older folk can barely use computers at all. They would never get my invitations. So, we are going to go ahead and get invitations printed. Paper invitations don't need to be super expensive, though! Look online and you can find inexpensive invitation options for just a few cents per invitation, if you are willing to use a pre-made design instead of a fancy custom design.

I've actually seen some incredibly nice e-vites! Not at all tacky and I fail to see how in the heck it would be rude... You can put as much effort into one of them as you can into a paper invite. I mean look at Avatar that was done on a computer! Fine, not everyone can create something on that level for their invitations but there is still a lot that can be done to create a truly lovely e-vite. Heck, if you're willing to spend all that money on paper what would be wrong with hiring a graphic designer or CGI animator to create a e-vite? My only problem with e-vites is that not everyone is tech-savvy (my aunts and granny would have been incredibly puzzled) and not everyone has an email account (granny yet again). But I guess that the non-tech-savvy could ask their kids (or a friend) to open the email for them, while those without email accounts could be sent a paper invite. Also, I have a few friends who either just don't have a personal email account as they use their work one for everything OR they never check their personal account. For the former, hopefully the e-vite will get through whatever work censor there is. For the latter, a heads up to the friend should be that's needed. In the end it honestly comes down to what you want and how much effort you want to put into it. To me an invite shouldn't be some grand expensive thing because most people toss it in the bin after the wedding or stick it in a draw for a few years before throwing it away. The only people who've kept my invitations are my mother, me and my mother-in-law.
