Question: Making your own wedding invitations?
(Posted by: Know It All on 2010-02-25 08:35:32)
Hi All, My best friend is getting married next year, and as well as her asking me to be a bridesmaid, she asked me to design and make her wedding invitations! I am delighted that she asked me and can't wait to get started. We are going to work together to do it. I was just wondering if anyone on here had designed and made their own or some elses invitations from scratch? if so, do you have any advice? any mistakes you made? or anything you would do differently if you were to do it again? Thanks! Just want to try and avoid any common pitfalls! :o) Better safe than sorry! |

My friend made her own wedding invitations and it was the best idea she ever came up with , she went to a normal craft shop which sells cardboard , glitter , stamps, ect.. you can make so attractive invitations at a really low price , even better you don't need to take it back or have it changed because you can do it by your self at your own taste :) |

Craft stores like Michael's or AC Moore sell invitation kits that are fairly inexpensive, and that's the route I took. There are templates on-line you can use to line up the margins, help with wording, etc (the kits usually have information contained within the box on the website address), or you can do it yourself in Word. There are ways in Word you can design a monogram (should you want one)., but I'm not sure of how to tell you to do that. Your best bet is to google 'Make a monogram in Word' and I'm sure you'll find directions...you can also find people on etsy.com who will make you one. You can also google 'wedding invitation wording' to help give you ideas. Places like theknot.com have pictures of invites that may give you some inspiration. Have fun! I enjoyed making my own. |

Try to jot down each and every name that you would hate to miss. Start off from your close one's and friends, and then move to other important people. The way my friend went about invitation process was simply different. Invitations along with RSVP were sent online as he had used wedding website weddingocean.com/ for this purpose. We had to fill RSVP to confirm whether or not we are coming. That made the task a lot easier and simple. Glad I could help. |

Such a great way to add personality to your wedding, and it's often much cheaper than ordering it. First thing - get dependable, cheap but nice looking materials. Buy cardstock or similar thick paper in whatever colors she's chosen, and either buy professional pens to do the writing, or find a local printer who'd be willing to cut you a deal on whatever you need to print up. Make sure you enlist the help of a few people, maybe your parents or her's, because if she's got a lot of guests, it is very time consuming. You've got quite a bit of time, so if she's got a date and colors and a venue, I suggest start designing as soon as possible. Maybe get some ribbons and nice envelopes to put the cards in? Is she sending save-the-date cards? Wish you and her the best of luck! :) |

Hi, I made my own wedding invitations and I think you should have a look at designbetty.com as templates for her invites, buy a box of plain greeting cards from craft shop, in the uk they call it hobbycraft ( you can buy them in the wedding colours, using your own adapted template, print the inserts and put those in the middle of the cards. You can also buy the gold looking embossed writing to go on the outside of the cards for weddings. They come specially made for weddings, christenings etc. depending on what you want it to say. hope this helps. |
