I don't think the shell idea will work unless you get a large, almost flat shell, and send it in a box. Shells break easily sometimes, and the last thing you'd want is to send off a broken invitation to the most important day of your life, you know? If you're planning on spending some money on the stuff, maybe get tiny boxes, fill them with sand on the bottom, some ocean blue tissue paper laying on top of it, and set your beautiful paper invitation on top of it. You could make the invites a beachy color - maybe blue, or a sand colored paper, with blue writing? - and put shell designs all over that. Or just a simple starfish on the front page?
