Question: Have you ever heard of this before (wedding rehearsal question)?
(Posted by: Peachy Keen, Jelly Bean on 2010-01-23 21:10:53)
My parents and I were talking the other night about my upcoming wedding and we got on the subject of the rehearsal. They told me that it is bad luck for the bride to walk down the aisle before the wedding, so the maid of honor is supposed to stand in and act as the bride during the rehearsal. Has anyone ever heard of this? I thought I was pretty up on my wedding superstitions but this is a new one on me! |

I have definitely not heard of this one! My sister got married in September 2009 and she walked down the aisle at the rehearsal. She's not too superstitious, but she did have something old, new, borrowed, and blue, and didn't see the groom before the wedding. I'd say it's only bad luck if you think it is, so if you're going to follow those old wives tales, only pay attention to the ones you've actually heard of! Seems pretty pointless to go researching more restrictions. lol |

I have. It's part of the balderdash that the entire affair is supposed to be the first time for each of you, in as many details as possible, from -- well, you said you're already up on them. My own superstition was that it's bad luck to let other people dictate how we directed our wedding. We're still married after over 25 years. |

I have heard of it but have never known a bride to take it seriously. I do like the tradition of taking all the bows and ribbons from the shower gifts to make your rehearsal bouquet. |

True. The matron or maid of honor stood in. The bride stood by and watched. It was considered bad luck. This is an old one, going out of style when I was young. My friends all rehearsed. Judging by what I see on tv, nobody knows this one anymore, and the bride rehearses. I don't see anyone using the bows from the shower as a bouquet at the rehearsal, shame that one is gone, it was cute. |

Yes, I have heard of it - but don't know the origin. I've never seen it, though. I participated in the rehearsal when I was married. |
