Question: Can i get some wedding tips please?
(Posted by: Melyssa on 2009-07-12 19:57:52)
I just got engaged two days ago and now it's time to start planning! I would love tips and hints about everything. Please help me out. How much should I expect to spend? We want to have a standard Catholic wedding, nothing too fancy though. A semi- large reception with an open bar. We plan to have family help with food so catering won't be needed. What are some ways to cut costs because lets face it, weddings are very expensive. Thanks!! |

If you have plenty of time and hands to help, DIY almost everything you can possibly do. # Sign up for a wedding registry to get gifts that you really need/ want, and not a dozen toasters. # Cut down on the number of attendants you will have to save on the number of gifts that you need to buy for them. # Cut down on your guest list too. Invite only the people who really mean something to you and your groom. # Check out bridal magazines. They usually have lots of ideas on how to cut down on wedding expenses. They may also have some discount coupons and raffles that may be worth trying. # Don’t settle for the first vendor you meet. Instead, keep on looking around well ahead of time so you can compare prices and get the best offer. Don’t forget to get other brides’ opinions too. # Observe the “something old” tradition. It can be your mom’s wedding dress or shoes or jewelry, so you don’t have to spend on either of that. # If you want to do it yourself but don’t want to be too stressed on your wedding day, choose a hairstyle that is very simple and not require you any special skill to do it. # Instead of buying a new one for yourself, borrow a nice, bridal-looking barrette, tiara or hair comb from a family or friend. There can be someone you know who have recently bought and used a nice hair accessory to another wedding, prom or formal special event. You can always use the “something borrowed” reason. # Wedding cakes are also expensive. If you can bake it yourself or get your mom, relative or friends to do it, the better. # Your wedding cake can be your dessert at the reception. # If you have to buy the cake, get it at the grocery’s bakery section. They sell it cheaper than regular bakeries do. # Check your backyard for something you can harvest and possibly turn into a dish. You might have lettuce and tomatoes that you can turn into Caesar’s salad. Or apples you can turn into apple pies. # If you are planning to buy your flowers, bear in mind that artificial flowers are cheaper than real ones. # If you have a garden with beautiful flowers in it, you can hand pick some so you don’t have to buy. If you don’t have a garden, check if you have a relative or friend who has and would be wiling to give you some flowers for your wedding bouquet, etc. # Potted plants or tiny flower arrangements as wedding favors can double as table centerpieces. If you prefer a different wedding favor, choose something that can double as table centerpiece so you don’t have to spend extra. More saving tips at my source. :-) Best wishes! |

Abide by the K.I.S.S principle at all times. K.I.S.S - Keep It Simple Stupid : ) A wedding does not have to be expensive to be beautiful and special. Just make sure that you stick with what you want...because everyone will make suggestions and have ideas about what your wedding should be like. But, remember that it is YOUR day and you can do what you want. You don't have to follow all wedding traditions that people expect. You can do what you want. The family catering sounds like a great idea - that will save heaps. |

Getting help with the food is an awesome way to save money. My father played the piano at mine and had friends play violin and cello. That was free. Do your research. Look around for free or cheap places to have the ceremony and reception. And save money. Nothing worse than entering a marriage in debt - especially for the wedding! Keep a scrapbook of everything, too. And be open about others ideas. You will hear a lot of them. Just say - I'll think about that - then do what you want. Good luck |

You are getting married and want to put your family to work in the kitchen? Shame on you. Spend on good food, have a limited bar (we all know that too much drink will ruin the wedding...Uncle Joe fell at the last wedding and broke his hip!) Anyhow, yes, I know how a traditional Catholic wedding cost$. Our family usually has "family style " food service. That means the servers bring large dishes of food for the table and each table has enough for everyone at that table. Buffets feel like a cattle corral, because there are people heading for seconds before the last table ever gets up to get a plate! Individual service is EXPENSIVE and it tends to be cold by the time each person is served no matter how fast the service is. Best food is chicken alfredo, green beans, hot roast beef, mashed potatoes, carmelized baby carrots, dinner rolls, salad, chicken soup, and stuffing. I liked it when a friend did this menu, plus, there was TONS of food left over, so she already had Glad containers there for people to fill up and take home extra! I would go a little cheap on the dress (keep it under $1000) and accesories, because honestly, how many places will you wear an austrian cyrstal necklace and earings? Forget the shoes! Just wear a nice white pair of satin slippers (if you have a traditional long gown, no one will see your shoes- or care) Matter of fact, you might get called "SMART " or "VERY INTELLIGENT " for being kind to your feet and saving so much on shoes! Seriously, this what I am about to say is the biggest tip of all....PRICE COMPARE! Shop around for the best price. Don't be afraid to ask for a lower price or discounts available...maybe they give special discounts for certain church members? Worse they can say is, "no, we can't give you a lower price. " |
